Random Musings...

A nice little Dave interview about his upcoming movie.
Excerpts:
In Matthews' first film role, "Because of Winn-Dixie," he plays a drifter.
"...I'm not real ambitious, except when I'm playing music. I like to pretend to be a drifter. Smelly person, dirty fingernails? I could get that covered pretty smoothly. Disheveled? I could cover that. Facial hair, strange bodily noises, drifter-type noises. Loner, mysterious, creepy. Don't let the kids touch him, that kind of thing? I can get into that."
"It's a sweet children's story," Matthews said. "It's about lonely people, people who are lost and people that are sad, and about a little girl who brings them together. So it's one of those good stories — good, wholesome stuff. Not a lot of crack smoking in this movie, not a lot of edgy urban scenes, not going to find that in this movie. But I think Hollywood has got that stuff covered."
"I'm glad to say that my performance in that [his previous movie which has not been released] was by no means exceptional, but it wasn't appalling," he said. "So when I'm not on the screen, you're not thinking about me. So that's perfect. At no point are you judging it really badly. So hopefully I can up that a little bit, so that when I'm off the screen [in 'Because of Winn-Dixie'], you're like, 'Where is he?' But now I'm already jinxing it. The 'suck' knob is going up as we speak."

This girl my brother has been dating seems to be very interested!! She took forever to commit to a first date with him. They started talking around Thanksgiving and didn't go on a date until early February. Well, all of a sudden the eternally busy, busy girl has all the time in the world for Bobby. Next weekend, they are going out both Friday and Saturday nights! The first night, they are going to go mini-golfing. That was my brother's idea. She then said that her favorite band, Barenaked Ladies, were playing in Orlando the next day and she'd love to go with him. He said ok, thinking she meant instead of his date idea, but no, she wants both!! Ha ha! Score for Bobby. This is such a wonderful self-esteem booster for him. If only all of our first forays into the dating world were as successful as his has been so far. I'm so glad to see it. Like I said before, even is this one doesn't pan out, he'll still be way more likely now to pursue other romantic opportunities in the future. Glad to see things working out for him so well. :)

My hair is very soft today for some reason. Cool.
So yesterday, the high was supposed to be 67. I decided to wear a thin sweater anyway, and thank goodness! I don't think it ever went about 50 all day! I checked the weather at 2:00pm, and it was 48. On top of that, it's been this nasty drizzly/misty crap for days now. What is this, a New Jersey spring? Bleh. The weather man finally wised up today and called for a high of 50. Tomorrow is supposed to be the return of the sun. We can only hope.
Last night we had two girls arrive to stay at our house until Sunday for their interviews for Andrew's program. They're very nice girls, and I hope they could both get in. However, they only take about a quarter of interviewees!! I always forget how tough it is to get to where Andrew is. The program receives about 400 applications a year, and only 3% of those end up receiving offers! Wow. I'm proud of my smart, little hubby.
Tonight is the first official off-book night in rehearsals, but we were pretty much off-book last night. I didn't have to call for line once! Pretty cool. It's always nice when we get the scripts out of our hands because you can suddenly see the show start clicking into place. It should be decent. The acting so far is not quite as good as the last show I did, but the script is great, so I still think it will be very enjoyable to the audience. Apparently, opening night is already nearly sold out!

This whole gay marriage debate really enfuriates me. I could care less what people think of homosexuals and how icky they think they are and how weird it would be for them to get married. I don't see why that has any merit in any discussion. The question at hand is: Is it right to discriminate against a group of people? I can't believe that our president is proposing that, yes, we should write it into our Constitution that we believe we should discriminate against one specific group. We are not only legalizing discrimination, we are making discrimination the law!!
It was only less than a century ago that it seemed silly to give women equal rights. It was less than a century ago that it seemed silly to give blacks equal rights. I would think that most people today can look back on that and be amazed that we used to deny them equal protections. So why is it different now? Why are so many people opposed to it? Because it's man-on-man action is gross?? Please, grow up and get over yourselves, people, and see the bigger picture!
I find it strange that the very people who claim we are out there fighting wars in the name of liberty and freedom are the ones supporting this legislation. I hate this friggin' hypocrisy! GRRRR!!!!!

Ha ha! This quiz calculates if your speech and vocabulary is regional or not. I guess I'm more southern than I thought: 70% Dixie! "A definitive Southern score" Well, I guess living in Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia for more than half my life, it makes sense. Actually...wait...holy crap...it's 70% of my life!! I lived in Puerto Rico for 7 years, so yeah, it's exactly right! Wow. Perfect calculation! You guys (not southern because I don't say y'all...one of the few things I haven't picked up) should try it out!

I got some very cool/random news last night. My dad loves to play dominoes, and he won first place over the weekend for Florida, even recovering from his illness! This year, they have made these domino tournaments a bigger deal, so he now goes to nationals, and it is getting picked up by ESPN!! LOL!! My dad is going to be on ESPN for dominoes!!! I think that is hilarious and so cool. I'll let you guys know when it is so you can tune in and root him on. Coincidentally enough, the tournament is being held in Orlando, so I'll probably be there in the audience rooting him on if it doesn't conflict with any of my shows! :)

Well, I had a pretty low-key weekend. Andrew's friend had a birthday party on Friday night. Besides that, I painted the sign for the upcoming show that goes outside the theatre and caught up on a whole bunch of housework that needed to be done. It's so easy to get behind on all that junk when you don't have any weeknights to do little things here and there...not to mention being out of town for the past three weekend in a row!! All of a sudden, I have five loads of laundry accumulated in my hamper overflowing onto the floor and a haze of dust on all the furniture. Ick.
On Thursday, we are getting two houseguests who will be staying through the weekend. They are interviewees for Andrew's program, so we are hosting them during their time here. I generally like hosting people, but it seems so hectic when I have rehearsals everynight.
Seriously, no more plays for a while. I've really gotten sick of not being able to get done the things that need to get done!
I saw a picture of Jennifer's little baby. SOOOOO cute. I mean, seriously cute considering he was only a few hours old when the picture was taken!! I have it on the computer at home, however. I will try to upload it sometime soon. I can't wait to meet the little guy. My parents are going to fly up to Iowa sometime in the next few weeks to see him. I'm jealous! I think I'll probably have to wait until Jackie's wedding in August.

I use MSN Messenger to alert me of emails when I receive them. Since I upgraded to their new version, it freezes and doesn't alert me to new messages arriving. Just as I started to contact their help, I realized that they're going to ask me to check all these stupid settings on my computer and go through a million steps. This wave of laziness came over me. I'm going to have to wait until I get really REALLY frustrated with not having the alerts before I subject myself to that horrible IT help.
So, yesterday was Bobby's birthday, and I talked to him on the phone for quite a while. It looks like he is in the beginning stages of getting himself an actual girlfriend! He's been talking to me about this girl for about two months now. I gave him some pointers on how to ask her out. She seemed hesitant to go out on a date with him, but they finally went out, and since then, she has seemed really interested in him! She calls him, he calls her. They are setting up future dates, etc. From what he tells me about her, she seems to be really digging him, which is awesome. Bobby was always so shy and hesitant to pursue any sort of romance, so I'm glad his first step has been so successful. Even if things don't work out in the long run, I'm so happy that he is having this boost of self-esteem. She is telling everyone how cute and funny he is. Very nice! I wonder if I'll ever get to meet this girl.
I just think this is wonderful. I'm so happy to see him taking these very scary and very adult steps in his life. He even went out and got himself a part-time job working at the school without my parents telling him to! He's a late bloomer, but I'm glad to see that he is getting to be quite the good, young man I hoped he would be. I'm proud of the guy. Man, I'm even getting a bit teary eyed just thinking about it. He's just so great!
In other news, American Idol sucked last night after a strong group last week. Very disappointing. I could not believe how bad they were. It's a shame that two people have to go through from this group, because they were really, really bad. I would have preferred four people from last week and none from this week. I voted for the Hawaiian girl anyway, just because she seemed to be the most interesting of the bunch. (Yes, I vote, I'm a dork)

How Old Is Your Inner Child?

My inner child is sixteen years old!
Life's not fair! It's never been fair, but while
adults might just accept that, I know
something's gotta change. And it's gonna
change, just as soon as I become an adult and
get some power of my own.

I decided to give Andrew his Valentine's present last night. Tickets to a Yankees/Braves Spring Training game! He was very excited about it! Made me happy! :)
My rehearsals have been going reasonably well. This play, fortunately, is a bit more light-hearted than the last one, so rehearsals don't feel as draining as they did for the previous show. Still, I'm pretty sure I'm going to make this my last show for a while unless I get cast in one of the two movies I have already contacted. I don't believe I will pursue anything new unless it is a perfect opportunity. It's just too much time committment. I need to let myself miss theatre again!

My dad is back home from the hospital! He is still on a liquid diet, and will be for a while, but he is looking much better. He is walking around and relatively energetic in between his naps. It was very nice to see him like that after seeing him last laying in a hospital bed with the gown on staring at the ceiling like a zombie.
My grandmother was going to leave on Firday, but she decided to leave yesterday instead so she could see Andrew and I. It was a nice time. I love seeing her! We also celebrated Bobby's birthday yesterday (which is actually on Tuesday). It hit me as we were singing Happy Birthday to him and looking at Mama that it was exactly two years ago on my brother's birthday since I last saw my grandfather. We were all in Sarasota, and that's the last time I ever saw him because he passed away April 10 of 2002. Wow, it hit me.

I have a meeting today from 1:30-3:00, and right after that, I leave for Orlando to see my Dad. Can't wait. Also, while we're down there, we'll be celebrating Bobby's birthday, which is on Tuesday. I can't believe he's 22! My baby brother! I got him the DVD Collection of Season 1 of the I Love Lucy Show. He loves that show, and I love watching it with him because he just cracks up. His laughter gets contagious sometimes. My grandmother will still be in town, too, so that'll be nice to see her again.
For now, I'm tired as usual. I hate that I spend half of my awake hours sleepy.

Well, I just got a call from my mom. Looks like they're releasing my dad tonight! Woohoo! He is still just going to have to stay in bed and would have to return if he is unable to continue eating or drinking or if his fever spikes again, but for now, they are letting him do his chemo and all that from home since he's been in there for about a week! It makes me very happy!

My dad seems to be a bit better. The doctors are setting the goal of a Friday release date from the hospital. His fever has come back up today, unfortunately, to 101, and we're not sure why. Still, the main thing that they are waiting for is for him to be able to eat and drink. This morning he was able to have a small glass of apple juice and about six bites of oatmeal, so we're taking baby steps there. Let's hope he is actually getting better. He's getting cabin fever from being bound to a hospital bed!
Last night's rehearsal really sucked for me. I don't know why I was so uninspired. The director was giving me acting notes, and I really couldn't give a damn. I was thinking to myself, "Whatever, I'll save the acting for another rehearsal." I was just up there reading my lines. Bleh.
I'm sleepy.

I've become addicted to Dave's cover of Paul Simon's American Tune that he sang at the Rochester show. I can't get through it once without having to hit the repeat button. The lyrics are amazing, and Dave really sings it with terrific emotion.
Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home, so far away from home
I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
Oh, but it's alright, it's alright
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what's gone wrong
And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying
We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the age's most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

My dad is finally getting some sleep now that he is on some more heavy duty painkillers. He's out of it for most of the day, but it's actually nice to know that he's not suffering like he was when I saw him. Fortunately, they have brought down his fever and pretty much kept it down. He is technically getting better. However, his worst symptom, obviously, is the esophagus, which is still raw, and he still has not been able to eat a bite of anything in a week as of today. So, this morning, they put him on extra IVs to "feed" him nutrients in addition to the regular hydrating one he's had all along. He won't be able to go home until he is able to eat and drink on his own or else he'll starve! My parents talked me out of going back down there tomorrow and asked me to hold off until the weekend. It is still pretty uncertain if he will be released by then.

An email just sent to me by Asshole No. 1 in the office in response to a less than thrilled email of mine giving him the course schedule for the fourth or fifth time this semester:
Thanks, I have saved it. Sorry to have taken you away from your job search
and personal correspondence. I have to be honest with you. I am very tired of
being treated rudely every time I have a request. Believe me, I understand
the feeling of being put out or asked to do many things for other, but your
presentation is most unsettling, quite audacious, toxic and has a negative
effect on me, because it occurs nearly every single time I ask for something
and I don't deserve to be treated with this unfriendly tone. I ask for very
little support from you and learned from the beginning that your services are
shared by the department, even during my most intensely busy times, I ask for
almost zero support from your area. I am not perfect and do not always have
saved exactly what you think you sent, but do have 2oo files for majors over
100 minors, plus continuous emails and attachements for NWSA and the
international center. I am being direct with you in this matter and all
future ones as I do not wish to pursue any of this behind the back talk that
people engage in. It is old, unproductive and unhealthy. I hope that you can
take some steps to try to be a more friendly person. It would be most
apprecaited, as I do all I can to be accomoodating, pleasant and helpful.
Thank you.

Good news first: Dave won his second Grammy tonight. (Here's a bad picture of him winning it.) He performed along with Sting a tribute to the Beatles' 40th anniversary of coming to America, and did a lovely job. He also looked quite dashing on the red carpet along with his wife who has only attended one other public function before.
Ok, onto the bad news. I had a terrible weekend. Saturday morning, I got a call from my mother. My dad was checked into the hospital on Friday. He hasn't eaten or had anything to drink since Tuesday, was in horrible pain, and could not get his fever below 102. It wasn't until yesterday that his fever finally went down to in between 100-101. He still hasn't eaten anything. They performed an endoscopy and found that his entire esophagus is inflamed and ulcerated. The original theory was that this was a bad reaction to the Fossamax he's started taking, but it wouldn't explain the fevers. A different doctor came in late yesterday and presented a new theory: that this is an extremely bad virus. Of course, they tell us this after we spent an entire weekend with him! Hopefully he was not contagious!! So, I sped down to Orlando Saturday as soon as I heard, and my grandmother was already there when I got there. Andrew was still in Baltimore and did not get in until late Saturday, so I told him just to stay in Gainesville unless I decided to stay longer. I did decide to come back yesterday when I thought it was just a reaction to the meds. (When my dad woke up from the endoscopy and heard the theory, his reaction was, "THAT'S IT?? No." However, now that it is believed to be a virus, the course of action is much more rigorous. Apparently, they are going to perform a kind of chemotherapy on him and is not expected to leave the hospital for a while longer. I'm thinking that maybe I'll go back down on Wednesday when Andrew has the day off, and I'll take the day off myself and go see him. He is absolutely miserable. On top of it all, he has developed the strangest symptom. Non-stop hiccups!! He has them all the time, and they are agonizing on his extremely sensitive esophagus. They go away for maybe ten minutes at a time, and then come back. He is just doing terrible and it was awful to see him like that. Ugh. I have my cell phone in the office today so I can be calling often. I can't stop thinking about it.

I was looking through a friend's wedding registry, and I saw that she has registered for travelers' checks/gift certificates for the spa/resort they are going to on their honeymoon. I thought to myself, what a fantastic idea! I got one, was checking out, and was just about to complete the sale when I noticed something...$10.50 shipping and handling!! For a piece of paper!!! It appealed to me because I figured I could afford to give her more than if I had to get things shipped, etc. Nevermind. At this point, I think I'm just going to mail her a plain ol' check in a card or something. That's an extra $10 she gets!

Ugh!! I hate talking to male, blue collar workers when I want to get something done. They are always so friggin' rude to me because I'm a girl. I've been calling places to get quotes on getting my patio paved. The first two places I called, I talked with women. They were very helpful, explaining to me the various patterns, options, etc. and giving me rough quotes. I talk to this guy, and he begins to explain to me in the rudest tone why he can't give me a quote because if I knew anything about concrete, I'd know it depended on where it was going to be to determine the grade of it, etc. GOD!! So aggravating. I don't know why I didn't hang up on him.
It's like dealing with car mechanics. I will no longer speak to car mechanics after the final straw almost two years ago. I dropped off Andrew's car to get serviced before one of our trips as a favor since he was busy, and was going to pick it up the next day. I called mid-afternoon of the next day, and the guy said it wasn't ready. I explained to him the situation, and he was so condescending, telling me that these kinds of procedures take time, blah, blah, blah. I was so furious that I called Andrew. He called and without even being able to get mad at the guy, he says that he'll get it done for him by 5pm. Holy crap. If only that was the first time such things had happened. I will never speak to a mechanic again unless they want to keep their testicles.
Oh, or like the alarm system guy. Andrew and I talked to two companies, and when we decided to go for one of them, obviously. The guy from the other place calls to see where we stood, and I let him know that we had decided to with the other place. He resists a bit like a salesman, but I explain to him our reasoning. "Perhaps this is something I should speak to Mr. Preston about, ma'am." Yeah, that did it.
God this kind of sexism really gets my blood boiling. I don't even want to call anymore places. Our patio is going to stay dirt if Andrew doesn't call instead of me.

I started off this morning in a decently good mood and then received a papercut to the tongue while sealing an envelope. Ouch. I bled and everything. That quickly put a damper on my day.
So, it's Friday, thank God! I think it's dumb I have rehearsal tonight, though. Never in all the dozens and dozens and dozens of plays have I ever had Friday evening rehearsals before dress/tech week. I'm sorry, I love doing this, but it is ridiculous that I have to sacrifice a weekend night when we could just have it on Sunday like every other play I've ever done. I'm just coming home and going to bed afterward, I guess. Woohoo. What a great Friday. I was going to go to dinner and a gynastics meet with friends, but no.
Yeah, that papercut definitely ruined my mood.

Wow!! This is freaky!! A girl was born with two heads. The weirdest part of the article: "Although only partially developed, the mouth on her second head moves when Rebeca is being breast-fed. Tests indicate some activity in her second brain." Eeek!! Very, very freaky. I feel really bad for this girl and her family.
ANYWAY...
It's sad not having Andrew around. Last night I had Lucky sleep in the room with me, but I don't think I'll do that again because he moves around too much. Oh well, sleeping alone tonight. Plus, I have to take him out twice as often now with Andrew not there to split it with me. I have to factor in an extra ten minutes for my morning routine. But yeah, it was sad to be laughing by myself to the Daily Show. Oh well.
Yesterday I was tremendously late for my rehearsal (15-20 minutes!) because I left my script here in the office and I didn't remember until I was leaving the house at the normal time I would leave to get there on time. Ugh! I am never, ever late, and I'm very glad this is a director I have worked with on two previous shows, because I think he would have come down hard on me if he didn't know this was an extremely rare occurence. I was trying to debate whether it was better to be late or to be there without a script, but at the last second I decided to get the script. In retrospect, it may have been better to go without the script.
I sent in my resume and letter for that job at United Way. I hope I hear from them. I think I would really enjoy that job.
Also, I got an email from the casting agency I kind of sort of joined about auditions for a Growing Pains Reunion special!! Unfortunately, there are no roles for me. It's all the original cast members, except now the "kids" have kids, and I can't quite pass for Kirk Cameron's daughter. I will say, though, that there is a combo of biological offspring and adoptive children of various ethnicities. It made me laugh.
Show me that smile again
Ooooh, show me that smile...

My current version of the cover letter I'm thinking of sending for that position at United Way. Still tweaking a bit...
Karen Bricklemyer
United Way of Alachua County
6031 NW 1st Place
Gainesville, FL 32607-2025
RE: Special Projects Coordinator
Dear Ms. Bricklemyer,
I want to make my service to the community more than something for which I wish I had more time after work; I want to make it my work. I have become familiar with the services United Way provides through my current capacity as a representative for the University of Florida Community Campaign. This experience over the past several years is what has inspired me to want to join your team.
I believe that I am capable of becoming a very effective Special Projects Coordinator for your expanding operations. I am seeking a challenge, a way to grow not just personally through community action, but professionally as well. Perhaps due to my background in theatre, I have developed into a true team-player and work well under pressure toward a goal. I am dedicated when I believe in what I do, and working for United Way, I will be organized, motivated, and disciplined.
Most of my professional responsibilities have had a strong customer-relations focus, which I understand is vital to this position. I have developed wonderful working relationships both personally and over the phone. I would especially look forward to the research concentration of the job, as this type of work has been one of the most enjoyable aspects of what I do as I compile facts and interesting ideas into the many press releases that I write.
The more I read about what this position entails, the more excited I become. Given this opportunity, I will jump in head-first to contribute all that I have to offer to help United Way make the biggest impact in our community that it can make. I would welcome the chance to discuss my candidacy with you further.
Sincerely,
Rosalba E. Preston

Well, Andrew left for the INS conference in Baltimore this morning, and he won't be back until Saturday evening. I'm going to miss him. :( I get so sad when we are apart. I just don't like the thought that we are far awat. I only left home an hour ago, but I already miss him, you know? Just because I know that he won't be home tonight or tomorrow or the day after. *sigh*
Apparently, my grandmother from Venezuela's brother passed away two days ago. I never even knew he existed. I was told he lived in Los Angeles, but we've been to LA twice and he was never mentioned. I'm supposed to give her a call to express my condolences, but it's weird since I never knew about him. It reminds me of the time I found out that her mother died when I was 11, and when my mom told me, I was more outraged to know that I had a great grandmother all this time that I never had heard of before!! It's weird. As close-knit as my dad's side of the family is, my mom's is very distant. It's interesting, though, because it's mainly for political reasons. My grandmother is Cuban. When Castro came, everyone stayed or left as they could. My great-grandmother stayed in Cuba, my grandmother moved to Venezuela, and this brother of hers, I suppose, went to LA. I guess I could have never met my great grandmother even if I had wanted to then. My grandmother did have a sister, though, that I did know pretty well who passed away about a year ago. She came to my wedding and everything. I wonder why some became more alienated than others. In any case, I will try to call her tonight to express my condolences. I wonder when the last time they saw each other was. I need to find out whether she is the last sibling alive or not. It's weird I don't know this. If any of my other grandmother's siblings were to die, I'd really mourn because I know them all and love them.

Yet another drizzly, dreary day. I'm not used to this here in Florida! We've been grey since Saturday, and it's getting old. Thank goodness I don't live in the Northeast where it is greay for weeks and weeks at a time. I miss the sun.
Tonight is my first night of rehearsals, so I get to find out who got cast. I was pretty disappointed with the audition pool the night I went, so hopefully put together with the other night they had enough to fill all the roles nicely. A funny thing happened to me during the auditions, however. There are two roles for 16-18 year old girls. Well, I suppose I'm officially too old for them because they never asked me to read for them. The funny thing is that they divided the audition into younger people and older people. They told the young people they could go home and the older people could stay. Since there are older roles in this too, I wasn't sure which camp I fit under. Well, yeah, I'm an older person. Ha! It's weird that for years all I ever got were the young ingenue roles even as people a few years younger than me got cast in older roles. I guess being a wife has aged me. I'm playing someone in her early 30's, which was more believable than me being 18 I suppose. It's a very new feeling!

Woohoo! That producer making the movie for PBS just stopped by the office to confirm that he would like me to audition for his film! All the profs who came by knew him and seemed somewhat puzzled as to why he came in to talk to the department secretary. Yeah, that's because it's the same idiots who have never gone to see any of my shows. Yeah, I'm more than just a secretary. It was a nice "in-your-face" moment for the department, and thrilling for me, of course, that it seems he is really this interested!

This quiz assesses if you are liberal or conservative in economic and in social issues. It turns out I'm almost totally centrist in economics, but liberal in social issues. Pretty much what I expected. Most of these types of quizzes show me as being way liberal because I support "liberal" social issues, etc, but I don't consider myself all that liberal, so separating it all out like this made a lot more sense to me. It's why I'm almost always split between Republican and Democrat but lean more Democrat, I suppose, even though I still don't like them.
And I wonder...why is supporting basic points of the constitution considered liberal?? Gay rights, separation of church and state, aren't these things established already?? I don't know why we keep discussing them. I'm amazed that it makes me liberal because I think that we shouldn't discriminate against anyone and the government shouldn't tell me how to pray to God.
Oh, and this is cute...actually...not so cute at all.

I talked to my cousin Jennifer yesterday for about an hour and a half. She is now 8 months along in her pregnancy and is apparently HUGE!! She said that the doctor is amazed at how big the baby is. She says that it already looks like a full term baby, even though she is not near full-term herself. The baby is already weighing in at eight pounds and the due date is supposed to be March 1! The doctor is estimating that he or she will be well over 9 pounds!! Scary!
Fortunately, Jennifer says that all her hugeness is straight forward. She has not gained much herself in that her hips, butt, etc. are still as slim as they ever were. She is hoping that means she will look back to normal in no time after giving birth. However, she is too huge and she is no longer able to put on socks or shoes. Worse yet, she is having such bad swelling in her legs that the doctor told her to wear support hose. If she can't put on her own shoes, she certainly can't do that! So, her faithful husband has to help her get dressed and undressed every day! It is also freezing in Iowa (she says it hasn't been above zero for over a week), but her jacket no longer closes around her belly. She buttons the top few buttons and lets the rest hang out.
But she is excited, of course, and I can't wait to see pictures of this baby! It made me so happy talking to her! :)

Oh the heartbreak!! The agony!!
I think this is the most upset I've ever been at the outcome of a game. I knew that the Panthers were an underdog in this thing, and knew it was a real possibility for them to lose, obviously, but to lose so closely like that in the last minute, well, it was just too much for me! If I hadn't had over 20 people over at my place, I probably would have shed a tear or two. They fought so hard!!
My only consolation is that no one ever gave them any respect throughout the season. Even when they were one of the last few undefeated teams early in the season, they were barely recognized for that. When they made it into the playoffs, every team they played was favored heavily over them. To everyone's surprise, this amazing and underrated team made it to the SuperBowl, but even then, everyone picked the Pats hands down in a blow out. It was not a blow out. They took it to the very last seconds of the game. I hope that even though they didn't come out champions, that they do come out of this with the respect they deserve. For a team that was 1-15 just two seasons ago to take it to the end of the SuperBowl, well, that says a lot for their work.
Ok, enough of that. Despite the ending, last night was fun. We had, like I said, over 20 people in our place. Andrew and I brought in our patio furniture, etc. and had *almost* enough seating for everyone. We cooked out some burgers and dogs for everyone that I believe came out pretty well. Andrew and I wore matching Panthers shirts to get into the spirit, and even bought some Panthers colored cupcakes! It was a fun time for sure, and it seemed like everyone enjoyed it. We were screaming and jumping around in the end for that last minute of the game. Even though the outcome was bad, it's still fun to share that atmosphere in a big group like that. I'm glad I have this SuperBowl tradition. It's a lot of work and money to host it, but it's a really fun thing to do every year.
Oh, and here is a boob.
