·Way Back Wednesday again·
This week's Way Back Wednesday topic is fraternities and sororities. Davidson had a weird system that we had fraternities, but not sororities. Instead of sororities, we had eating houses, which were basically the same thing except they weren't part of any sort of national chapter system. Anyway, the picture I'm posting for today was the picture taken of my roommate and I at 4am when the girls of Connor (the eating house I joined) came clanging with their pots and pans to kidnap us from our rooms to take us back down to the house to announce we were officially selected. We didn't have time to brush our teeth or anything. We were literally dragged out. Thank goodness I was wearing cute pajamas that night!

·The Full Update·
To answer a few questions and to finally get some things out there, here is a post about my pregnancy so far...
I'm about eight weeks along. We won't know the sex of the baby for another two or three months or so. I waited to tell anyone until this past Thursday because I went to the doctor to get my first sonogram and saw the heartbeat for the very first time. It was unreal to be lying there, holding Andrew's hand, and seeing our very own child for the first time. It's just a little blob now, but it's our blob, and it has a beautiful, strong heartbeat you can actually see, and it's the most beautiful thing either of us had ever seen.
In the meantime, my moments of glow about the whole thing are only fleeting since I feel absolutely sick the rest of the time. It's just miserable, and there isn't a darn thing I can do about it except wait to be done with my first trimester and hope the symptoms subside. I've also developed what appear to be allergies or some other sniffly, drippy illness that I just have to take like a man. No drugs or anything. It's been three nights since I have had a good sleep. After laying in bed for hours, I decided to get up and log onto the computer at 6am on a Saturday morning.
I found out about this whole thing almost a month ago. Andrew and I had been talking about starting a family sometime in the next year. Then this happened almost instantly. We decided that we should start making preparations, and then, poof! Apparently what they teach you in school is true. We weren't expecting it to be so instant, and the timing has been rather interesting. I found out a few days after I submitted my official resignation at my old job. I was waiting on approval from my new health insurance. Unfortunately, my new insurance decided to drop me on news of the pregnancy. My old insurance was absolutely incredible. For the mere $40/month I was paying, it would have paid 100% of all maternity costs. I'm glad I'm not at my old job anymore, but still, the knowledge of this is a bit torturous. I'm covered until the end of October, and after that, I need to see what I can figure out. I'm probably going to hit the Medicaid office since I think Andrew and I might currently qualify as below the poverty line since he makes his little stuent stipend and I currently have no income.
It's also been pretty difficult to get this business started when I feel the need to lie down for an hour regularly throughout the day. My clothes don't fit anymore, either. I just went out and bought some maternity clothes yesterday. I hope I'm able to give this business a fair shake now, because it's pretty much all we have right now. My wonderful business with it's whopping two orders. It was scary enough committing to this crazy scheme of mine with the thought of bringing Andrew down with me, but now I'm bringing an innocent child into this whole thing, and it's just overwhelming.
But all I keep telling myself is that these are momentary obstacles for a lifetime of joy. Momentary obstacles for a lifetime of joy. Andrew and I were excited about starting a family, and we still are. We'll figure the rest out somehow. The images from that sonogram are impossible to get out of my head. Andrew is already into superdaddy mode and can not do enough for me or to show how excited he is about our little creation. It's a beautiful thing that our love for each other has brought another human being into this world. As much fun as I have had in my youth and in my nearly perfect, simple marriage, thoughts of the first steps, first words, Little League games, school plays, bathtime fun, bedtime stories, theme birthday parties, and the thought of some beautiful child calling me mommy seem so big that my heart could burst. Our child is nothing more than nausea and a whitish blob on a dark screen right now, but I'm already starting to realize the love of a mother. I would already do anything for him or her, so all the problems don't seem so big to me anymore.

·Way Back Wednesday·
Alright, I'm actually going to play Way Back Wednesday for the first time this week. Jennifer plays it along with Mama Duck, who started it all. I only have pictures from college through now here at my house (the rest are at my parents'), but today's topic fits my catalog.
Today's topic: When I Was Hot. Well, I can definitely say I was at my hottest my sophomore year of college. Hands down. I knew I was hot too. Man, that was my year. That was the year I had three guys ask me out for the same weekend, and I had to make sure to keep my schedule straight. That was the year that two guys approached me at the same time at a party and had a face off to see who would back down first (one of them my future husband!). It was nice knowing I was such hot stuff, but alas, I finally fell in love toward the end of the year, and so that was the end of my tease days. I no longer had a need for the waist-long hair and mini skirts.
Now, well, let's say hot isn't a word that comes to mind all that often. Still, it's nice to look back and reminisce on When I Was Hot...

·168·
I got 168 hits to formsofexpression.com yesterday! How great is that?? Almost all of them were from emails. I'm excited about how many people forwarded my email, it seems. No sales yesterday, but I'm excited anyway. I'll eventually get one!
Oh, and four of those hits were from Google! I'm officially up there!

·IT'S FINALLY HERE!!·
Well, the time is finally here! Forms of Expression is now open for business!
Forms of Expression offers personalized gifts engraved with the latest laser technology. I had been brainstorming this idea for almost a year now, and I'm excited to finally get it off the ground. I'm starting it primarily as an online business, which can be found at www.formsofexpression.com. Please check it out and let me know what you think, and, of course, feel free to shop around! Right now, I'm offering glassware, photo albums and picture frames, jewelry, and more. I'm still working on a few things on the website, and I will keep expanding my selection regularly, so be sure to check back often.
Please forward this to anyone you think may be interested! I could use any help in spreading the word while I wait for the rest of the internet to start finding its way.
Thanks, and wish me luck!

·Football: Extreme Highs and Lows·
Big football weekend for us. It started off with the best game I have ever been to in my life: Saturday's Florida Tennessee game. Wow. That was a BLAST!!! What a great game. It was such a thrill to be there and watch it all unfold in front of us. Play after play, The Swamp seemed like it would just collapse under our feet. It was so loud I could feel my inner ears vibrating and the noise became so distorted it felt like my ears would just explode. Never have I been to such an exciting game. We're #5 in the country now. Feels great!
We got to bed around 2am to get up at 7am to head down to Tampa to catch the Bills play the Bucs. As great as the game was Saturday, Sunday's game was the worst I'd ever seen. What a contrast. It was just awful. It wasn't even awful just because my team was loding. It was just dreadfully boring. Nothing was going on at all. Not only that, but it was so freaking hot in that stadium I couldn't stand it. It takes a lot for me to say it's TOO hot to take, but it really was too hot out there. I found myself volunteering to get everyone's beers for them so I'd have an excuse to go back inside where it was shady and the fans blew the air. I usually don't even go to the bathroom during a game because I can't stand to miss a play. I couldn't take it. It wasn't even worth it to try and stand it.
OK, now I really promise...the website will be 100% tonight. Tonight I swear!

·From Here You Can Almost See the Sea·
I got my new David Gray CD yesterday. I love, love, love the song Lately! I've only listened through the whole thing once, but I know I'm going to like most of it.
Lyrics that already jumped out at me on the CD...
I dream of high clouds
Flushed with the light of daybreak
I'm gonna dive in
To water so cold it makes your bones ache
Fingers, knees, and knuckles scraped
All of the rubbish heaped
A piece of cardboard taped
Up where the bedroom window pane used to be
From here you can almost
From here you can almost see the sea
It moved me to tears. (Not that it takes much these days)
ANyway, back to work for me. I must get the site done today!

·Oh yeah, and...·
I finally caught DMB's Dreamgirl video. Now, when I think that something DMB is a piece of crap, it must be quite something indeed. That video was a piece of crap. Wow. It made no sense at all. It wasn't even artsy weird. It was just stupid weird.

·Almost There...·
I have about 50% of my products up. Once I get all of the photos up, I just have to tweak the text around the website, and I'm all set. I'm thinking I'll be at 100% by tomorrow morning. I can't wait. You can check out the progress at www.formsofexpression.com I fixed the problem of it going to the old website finally! Feel free to look around, just don't actually order anything yet!

I can't express how happy the return of football has made me. NCAA started up a week ago, and I have already watched four games. I'm attending my first Gator game of the season on Saturday. *Chomp*

·Bed. Now.·
I don't know what's about to go down here, but I know that if I don't get to a bed within the next ten minutes, my body is going to rebel. I'm so tired I can hardly stand it. Another hour and a half before I get to leave.
Update 45 minutes later: What went down was that I began sending out very bitchy emails to a ton of people calling them on things they are doing wrong and CC'ing the director of the school. I called out all professors who have not posted office hours, all professors who have not turned in syllabi, all area coordinators who have not turned in schedule revisions, and all TAs who have been moving into nicer rooms that were reserved for rehearsals. In my defense, I have given multiple notices up to this point, so it's not like I've suddenly decided to tattle on everyone who has missed deadlines and broken rules. I'm doing my job, so it's fine, but I can't say that it's a coincidence that I decided to perform my bitchiest duties right now in the absence of the bed I requested.

·Katrina·
I gave money to the Red Cross for the tsunami and was very sure I'd give some more for Katrina now. However, we personally know two families personally affected by the tragedy. One was a grad student one year ahead of Andrew who had just left for internship to Tulane. She and her husband had just bought a house there in New Orleans and they have a one-year old baby. They were able to leave only with what they could pack in the car. The rest is presumed to have been lost. The other is the family of one of Andrew's clinic supervisors who is from New Orleans. He said about 50 relatives of his ages 2-90 evacuated in a caravan and are all currently sleeping in a church in Alabama. They were able to bring a suitcase each. About 10 stayed behind, and he has been unable to find out if they are ok.
Instead of giving money to the Red Cross this time around, Andrew and I decided to give as much money as we could afford to give directly to these two families. I'm glad to hear of so many millions being directed toward the Red Cross and other charitable organizations, because there are a ton of other people who are in desperate need, but it felt right to us to give in this way. We've given a lot of money by our standards, and it feels good to know that it is definitely going to help these two families out in very real ways. If I were in their shoes, I know I would certainly prefer to receive assistance in that way, especially with young children, rather than wait for the aid to trickle in. It is perfectly acceptable (and right) for the Red Cross to give immediate aid to those in imminent danger, but these families are suffering too, and it's nice to get them through until they are able to receive other help.
When the levees first broke, I was glued to CNN and watched with horror at the tragedy unfolding. Since then, though, I've been avoiding the whole thing. I suppose that's selfish of me, but it's just too upsetting. It's not really ignoring, because I think about it all of the time and I've tried to act conscientiously, but I'd rather not be confronted by it all of the time. It's just too much. It's too much to even comprehend. If I were to ever understand it fully, I think I'd just collapse in despair. All I can do is hope I've done my part.

·Avoidance·
Why have I been avoiding my blog lately? The answer is because I've been dealing with some rather major things and I have no idea how to even write about them. It's amazing to me that I allowed myself to sit on my ass for over three years straight with no change whatsoever. I kept saving the rest of my life for some other day. Suddenly, everything has come at once. Everything. I can't even begin to make heads or tails of any of it. I'll write about this all soon.

·Discomfuzzulated·
If discomfuzzulated was a word, that's what I'd be right now. I'm discomfuzzulated. Don't tell me you can't understand what it means. It means exactly what it sounds like it means. Therefore, it should be a word I can use freely.
Can I just not show up to work tomorrow? My mind is swirling. So very, very much going on. Plus, we're going down to visit Bobby this weekend in Port St. Lucie where he just moved. I have a lot to get done before I leave. I actually cancelled sushi for tonight with Kim. CANCELLED SUSHI!! My world is upside down I tell you.
