·Happy Halloween!·
Our Halloween party is this Friday (I know that means it'll be November, but that was the most convenient time). It seems as though we are going to be having our biggest party at our place yet. We have 25 who have RSVP'd that they are coming so far, and we are still waiting on 20 people who have not yet RSVP'd. Wow. We are most definitely going to have a full house!
We got our costumes in the mail on Friday. Andrew's is so good, but mine SUCKS!! I'm so upset! It comes with this ridiculously stupid headpiece. Now I have no idea what to do. I'm going to go check the costume shops in town to see if there are any decent wigs I can buy to try to save the costume. I'm thinking they're probably going to be picked clean, though. *sigh* I was so excited about it, and now it's the lamest costume ever.

·3 Months·

Here's a bad picture I took yesterday of my belly at 3 months. I'll be sure to take better ones in the near future, but nevertheless, here it is by popular demand!

·Trendy·
I'm so sick of all these trendy names. Everyone wants to be so "unique" that they all end up picking the same, stupid, "different" names. But if these same types have the foresight to realize that it's not so unique, then they put all these funky spellings that make no sense or all an extra little twist at the end to make a normal name weird. I'm reading all these baby boards, and I swear, if I made up a name and said I was thinking of Jaeydlynn for a girl and Broedwyn for a boy, they'd think they were the best names ever and add them to their lists. One woman was like, "I know the name Madison is way too popular, so I was thinking Madisyn." And all these other moms pipe in applauding her creativity and egging her on. Huh??
Don't get me wrong. I'm not about to name my children something super traditional, boring, and common. I also happen to think a lot of the very popular names out right now are pretty darn cute. I'm just trying to put a little more thought into this and avoid all the pitfalls of naming trends. I don't want my kid to end up hating his or her name because everyone else has it or because it's too weird for anyone to even begin to guess how to spell it.

·Way Back Wednesday--Halloween Edition·
Today's Way Back Wednesday is, fittingly enough, Halloween costumes. I only have pictures of three Halloween costumes.
The first is me as Little Red Riding Hood. My grandmother made this entire costume herself along with equally elaborate Cinderella and Mary Poppins costumes for my other two cousins. She was an amazing seamstress! This actual picture was taken when I played Little Red Riding Hood for my very first "school play" in pre-K (I was probably four in this picture), but I wore this the following two Halloweens as well, so it still counts as a Halloween picture!

The next two aren't so way back. This first one was an unsuccessful attempt to be Cher three years ago.

This one was just last year at our Halloween party. I went as a jailbird, Andrew as the judge!

·My Other Baby·
Actually, he's not such a baby anymore. I can't believe how much he's grown since I last saw him just two months ago. I can't wait to see him for New Year's again. He is adorable. How can you not melt at these new pictures???

I can't believe I'm going to have what my cousin has in just a few months! Seems unreal. Just unreal.
Anyway, in regards to the hurricane, it appears that Bobby's house was relatively unscathed. His neighbors said that the neighborhood did just fine, fortunately, since it's brand new. He only damage they noticed to his house was that the lamps on either side of the garage door flew off. No big deal compared to what most people in his town are dealing with right now!

·Annoying College Student Neighbors, Continued·
We have a great public park about 75 yards from my front door. There are three soccer/football fields, two basketball courts, two volleyball courts, a dog park, a hiking trail, and a pond. We walk Lucky there every single day. The best thing about it is that you don't even have to go out onto any roads to get there. It's practically part of our neighborhood.
Why then do we have these idiots playing football in the road just in front of our house and having the football hit all of the parked cars????

·Showing·
This morning was rainy and windy. Now, it's still windy, but there are breaks in the clouds when the sun actually peeks through. It's so nice and cool outside too! We're certainly doing a lot better than the rest of our state is doing right now. Bobby's house got the eye of the storm, as predicted. He's in Orlando now, where it's been gusting in the 50+ mph, but nothing terrible. He'll be calling his neighbors this evening to get an assessment of the damage. Depending on how bad it may be, we may have to take a trip down there to help him out, especially since my parents are out of town.
This weekend we went out twice. I was sick of continually wearing my stretchy maternity pants, so I decided to see if I still fit in a few of my more forgiving regular clothing items. I wore a dress that was always a bit too big on me on Friday night and then an elastic waisted skirt on Saturday. WOW! All of a sudden I realized just how much I'm showing! I fit well into both, but I had a huge round belly! I guess you just can't really notice it in the too-big maternity clothes I've been wearing. These outfits really showed it off, though. It was bizarre to see myself like that. I kept having to fight the urge to suck in at the feel of having the fabric pulled around my stomach. Good news is according to my doctor's visit on Thursday, I've only gained one pound, so the rest of me looks the same as always. It's just that I have a round belly now. I was so weirded out by my new appearance that I had a dream on Friday night that I was actually wearing a pillow under the dress. I was so confused as to why I would want to fool people in to thinking I looked like that. The pillow started slipping down, and I was terrified that everyone would find out I was a big phony. Nope, not a phony since I woke up looking the same on Saturday morning! I still can't get over it.
I'm not supposed to be able to feel the baby for another month or so, but I'm definitely feeling plenty that's different in that area. I feel so stretched out, like I'm stretching out my abs by bending myself backward or something. When I bent down to shave my legs on Friday, I felt like I was bending over a big guardrail or something. More than just feeling big and bloated around my stomach, it felt like I had a physical obstacle I had to push against to reach my ankles. It's very weird.
I'm finding there are plenty of very unglamorous things about pregnancy that you never hear about. I always thought that pregnant women were so beautiful, but now, I don't think I could ever look at it the same way again! If anyone ever looks at me and thinks to themselves how wonderful pregnancy looks, well, I'm a better actress than I thought I was!

·Your Cup Is Overflowing...Sometimes Your Well Is Dry·
We heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time yesterday. It was surprisingly unemotional for me. I was very happy to know its heart is still going strong, of course, but I failed to experience the big moment most people say they have. I was a little puzzled by my reaction, or lack thereof.
And yet, I find myself crying at the drop of a hat the rest of the time. I'd list the everything that have made me sob like a baby, but most of them don't make any sense. Like I started crying uncontrollably yesterday looking at Lucky. I pictured him as a fetus in his mother's belly, and I just couldn't stop. I don't get it either. And yet, I cry. I cry for the cute old lady who gives ridiculous bids on Price is Right and of course never gets to play any of the games. I cry for my brother's house that is probably going to get slammed by the hurricane. I don't know what I haven't cried about. I've even cried for my own baby feeling sorry for it that it has to be born to such a dumb mother.

·Way Back Wednesday--ROAD TRIP!!·
I'm extremely excited about today's Way Back Wednesday topic because it's one of my favorite things about college: The Road Trip. We went on several of these over our four years. We went to almost every region of the East Coast at some point. I can't narrow it down to just one Road Trip experience, so I'll have to go through all of them!
Our first roadtrip: Washington, DC--March '98
A small group of us decided to go to DC because we could do a lot of touristy stuff for $0 money. Our only expenses were gas, hotel, and food. We had a blast!

Next: Roanoke, Virginia for our very first DMB show--April '98
As crazy of a DMB fan as I was at this time, I still had never been to my first show. Well, we certainly started it off with a bang. There was a general admission show in Virginia about six hours away, so we decided to get in the car and show up a day early and camp out for the best seats. And we did just that. We were the very first people there, and as a result, we got first row!! (Well, for a while until people shoved ahead of us.)

Next: Orlando, Florida--March '99
OK, so you could say that I was just coming home, but this roadtrip was great because we had the biggest group and we hit all of the big theme parks in the area. So much fun!
Next: Carolina Mountains--November '99
I'm surprised I don't have any pictures uploaded on my computer of this trip. It was so much fun! If I have time, I'll upload them later today.
Finally, the mother of them all: The Northeast--March '01
We had been taling about what would be a fitting roadtrip to cap off our college years. Our last hurrah. New Orleans was just barely edged out by a tour of the major cities of the Northeast: Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. However, what us Southern girls hadn't stopped to think about was that March is a very fickle time of year for the Northeast. Well, we started our long, long drive up to Philadelphia where we stayed for two nights.

From there, we drove up to Poughkeepsie, New York to visit one of the friends of a girl in our group. We spent a night all strewn about his dorm room floor. Next stop was New York City, but the weather had other plans. We turned on the TV as we were getting ready to hear about the great Nor'easter coming to wallop the area and that Mayor Guliani was shutting down the entire city. Umm, that kind of put a damper in our plans. After a snow-free trip, we were suddenly confronted with the possibility of driving in snow, something none of us had ever had to do beyond the two inches or so we would get from time to time. We didn't quite think of that when we decided on this trip!! So now we had to decide, do we just turn around and hang out on the deserted campus, or do we change our plans. Well, it occured to me that since we were already in the state, we could just head West and visit my future-in-laws in Buffalo. We called the up, and they were glad to host us. It actually turned out to be really fun! We went to Niagara Falls and into Canada. And we saw A LOT of snow!

Post College:
While road trips are certainly different now than they used to be, I still enjoy them quite a bit. I've taken two notable ones since graduation...
Atlanta, Georgia for DMB show--September '03
This was my first time taking the plunge and meeting up with fellow DMB freaks I had never met in person before. It was way more fun than I expected it to be!

Wisconsin--August '04
The whole trip revolved around the DMB shows at Alpine, of course, but my friends Anika and Lane from high school decided to come along with me as well and we made a roadtrip out of it, starting off in Madison and then the camping for the shows.

Savannah, Georgia--March '05
This past Easter we headed up to Savannah with another couple. We had a lot of fun and still managed to get in a lot of "good ol' days" fun, even though we were all married and stuff.

Wow, obviously this was a very good theme this week! I just love road trips so much. I wonder when I'll ever get my next one!! :( Thanks, Mama Duck, for the ideas!
